Ford's Special Vehicle Team (SVT) engineers took high performance to a new level with the 2011 Ford Shelby GT500, resulting in a car that has an all-new aluminum-block engine, even better driving dynamics and handling, improved fuel economy and more horsepower than ever. The 2011 Shelby GT500's all-new aluminum-block 5.4-liter supercharged V8 engine produces 550 horsepower and 510 lb.-ft. of torque, a 10 horsepower increase versus the 2010 model. The engine also is 102 pounds lighter than its predecessor, delivering a better power-to-weight ratio, improved fuel economy, acceleration, handling and steering precision. The addition of electric power-assisted steering (EPAS), enhanced convertible rigidity and a lowered ride height to the 2011 Shelby GT500 contribute to improved driving dynamics and handling. Also new for 2011 is an available glass roof, providing customers with a less expensive option than a convertible and without compromising the Coupe's versatility, headroom or climate-controlled environment. New SVT Performance Package New for 2011 is an SVT Performance Package for enthusiasts who want even more performance out of their Shelby GT500. The car comes complete with all-new Goodyear Eagle® F1 SuperCar G: 2 tires that SVT engineers worked directly with Goodyear to develop, offering superb dry traction, precise handling and a race-inspired high-performance tread compound. The optional package also offers unique styling, lighter wheels, a higher rear axle ratio and stiffer springs, and it is available on both the Convertible and Coupe. Safety/Standard
Debut of New Technology The new 5.4-liter engine uses state-of-the-art Plasma Transferred Wire Arc (PTWA) liner coating, a process that applies a 150-micron composite coating that contains nanoparticles on the internal surfaces of engine cylinder bores, replacing cast-iron liners typically used in aluminum engine blocks. This is the first Ford application of the technology, and it offers improved overall performance and durability, along with functional benefits of reduced friction between piston rings and cylinder bores, improved heat transfer due to increased surface contact area, and a weight savings of 8.5 pounds compared to a typical steel-sleeved aluminum block. The Ford F-150 SVT Raptor is a certified success, and Ford engineers are still finding ways to raise the bar. For 2011, those improvements come in the form of a SuperCrew cab option, a standard 6.2-liter engine and a wealth of new technologies. The new available 145-inch-wheelbase SuperCrew offering with a 5.5-foot box adds to the extensive list of F-150 SVT Raptor features. While contributing additional space and flexibility for the customer, the SuperCrew doesn't disappoint in performance. Upgraded technology content includes a standard 4.2-inch LCD productivity screen that features a unique welcome animation and offers menu options giving the customer important information related to off-road and towing performance. Standard 6.2L V8 The previously optional 6.2-liter V8 engine, which produces 411 horsepower and 434 lb.-ft. of torque, is now standard for 2011, delivering the power customers need for their off-road adventures. Hundreds of additional tests beyond the normal validation of truck engines, as well as vehicle testing on a 62-mile durability loop in the desert that simulates the Baja 1000, proved out the performance of the engine for reliability and longevity in the harshest conditions. Personalized Exterior Options Raptor's exterior also receives updates for 2011 with a new graphic and paint choice. Ingot Silver Metallic is now available, with the standard black interior or the optional Molten Orange Interior Accent Package. A new hood graphic also debuts, which was inspired by older off-road racing Ford Broncos. The matte black accent graphics along the hood include the F-150 SVT Raptor logo, and help reduce some of the glare off the hood.
